ICC Austin is a 501c-3 nonprofit housing cooperative located in the heart of central Austin.  We provide affordable housing to students on a cooperative basis.  ICC Austin operates nine houses with a total of 188 members.  Each house is democratically run, and all members contribute labor hours at the house and organizational level to help keep the cost affordable.  We are an open membership organization and welcome all students in Central Texas!  Read more about cooperative living here.

We are glad you want to join our cooperative! There are four major steps each new member must take to join ICC Austin: apply, complete the house education process, turn in required documentation and pay your deposit and new member fees.  Click on the tabs below for detailed information on each step.

After you submit your application you will receive two emails.

The first email will be an auto-response confirming that your application was submitted.  Please note!  Our entire application process is electronic and email is our primary form of communication.  If you do not receive a confirmation email within 24 hours of submitting your application, please contact our Membership Director!  This means your email address was entered wrong and we cannot contact you.

The second email will come directly from our Membership Director.  You will receive this email within 3 business days of completing your application.   This email will contain specific information on your next steps.  Based on the time of year you apply, one of two things will happen.  You will either be added to our waitlist list for future contract signing; or you will be provided with information on current vacancies.  Be sure to read this second email carefully so you know what to do next!

ICC Austin has open membership for any qualified student.  Each ICC Austin house community requires new members to complete an education process.  This varies by house but may include attending a house dinner, taking a tour, cooking dinner, attending a house meeting or having a Skype interview.  This is not a member selection process.   The education process is an opportunity for you to ensure the house community and culture are a good fit for YOU.  We want you to be happy and feel comfortable in your community.

We encourage all new members to visit at least three houses.  This provides you the opportunity to learn about each community, meet current members and determine your best fit.  We understand not everyone can come to Austin for house visits and education process.  That’s ok!  The house membership officer will arrange a Skype meeting or other form of online communication with you.

ICC Austin requires the following for a housing contract to be finalized.

  • Proof of enrollment
  • Proof of Income / Contract Guarantor
  • Felony Background  Check
  • Copy of Photo ID
