We are so glad you want to join our cooperative community! There are four major steps each new member must take to join ICC Austin: apply, complete the house education process, turn in required documentation and pay your deposit and new member fees. We accept applications year-round. Here are the general timelines for leasing.
Academic Year / Fall Semester – As early as August for the following fall. (ex: If you want to live in ICC Austin during fall 2020, you can apply as early as August 2019).
Our academic year leasing process takes place in February each year. It is not a rolling process like the apartment complexes. Once you apply, you will be added to our contract signing waitlist which gives you the opportunity to select a room in February. The earlier you apply, the more likely you are to receive a room.
In February, room selection occurs in the following order: 1) current members; 2) need-based financial aid recipients; 3) all other student-applicants. We typically have ~90 spaces available for new members each fall.
Spring Semester – As early as January for the following spring. (ex: If you want to live in ICC Austin during spring 2021, you can apply as early as January 2020).
Our spring leasing is similar to an apartment complex and is done on a rolling basis. Rooms are offered first come, first served until we are full.
Summer – As early as October for the upcoming summer. (ex: If you want to live in ICC Austin during summer 2020, you can apply as early as October 2019).
Our summer leasing is combined with our academic year leasing – which takes place in February. After February, rooms are offered first come, first served until we are full.
Students receiving need-based financial aid are always prioritized for housing ahead of those not receiving need-based financial aid. This is our non-profit mission.

After you submit your application you will receive an immediate confirmation email. Then, within a few days, you’ll receive an email from our operations manager, Billy, who will guide you through the room selection and leasing process.
ICC Austin has open membership for any qualified student.
Given the unique nature of our organization, we want you to understand how we operate. Each ICC Austin house community requires new members to complete an education process. This varies by house but may include attending a house dinner, taking a tour, cooking dinner, attending a house meeting or having a Skype interview. This is not a member selection process. This is an opportunity for you to ensure the house community and culture are a good fit for YOU. We want you to be happy and feel comfortable in your community.
We encourage all new members to visit at least three houses so you can compare the differences. We understand not everyone can come to Austin for house visits and education process. That’s ok! The house membership officer will arrange a Skype meeting or other form of online communication with you.
ICC Austin requires the following for a housing contract to be finalized.
Specific instructions will be provided with your contract offer.
A $645 payment is required to finalize your contract with ICC Austin. This includes a $500 refundable security deposit and $145 in non-refundable new member fees.
If you cannot pay the full amount up front, that’s ok! Don’t let that deter you from applying or joining. We will work with you on a payment plan arrangement for your deposit and new member fees. Just ask!
